Individual and Relationship Counseling in Austin, Texas

“As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has—or ever will have—something inside that is unique to all time. It’s our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression.” —Fred Rogers
Come, sit, and let me make you a cup of tea.
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Maybe you know exactly what isn’t working in your life, or maybe you don’t but you know something has to change. Anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use changes, relationship disconnect—I believe in approaching symptoms from a place of empathy, not pathology. Your body is trying to communicate something to you; let’s give it a chance to be heard.
Through significant personal and relational challenges, we all benefit from a caring, safe, compassionate, non-judgmental person to sit with us, and gently push us to explore our thoughts and feelings and delve into their origins. All humans have the capacity to self-heal, but as relational beings, it is much easier to do that with experienced, objective support and guidance. My goal is to collaborate with you to bring the unconscious forward so you can tune into what your body is trying to communicate, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and breathe easier so you can enjoy your life and relationships fully.

About Me
Hi! I’m Amanda. I have the best job in the entire world—caring about, supporting, and learning from my fellow humans! At sixteen-years-old, starting out in the service industry, I learned that caring about others and taking the time to truly see them was what gave my life the most meaning and brought me joy. Since then, I have spent time in the classroom as an alternative high school English teacher, enjoyed six years in non-profit community engagement, and found my true passion for therapy providing clinical case management in supportive housing. I have met, learned from, and grown to truly love people of all ages and from all walks of life. Learning about and celebrating the incredible diversity in our world fills my soul; there is nothing more meaningful than another human allowing you into the soft vulnerable spaces we all tend to keep from the world.
I have never worked with a person in my entire career who did not bring just as much quality to my life (if not more) than I brought to theirs. I love that each new perspective I’m fortunate to learn broadens my own worldview. We’re in this together, and I want you to speak up if what we’re doing isn’t working or if I’m not understanding where you’re coming from. I want you to be YOU in the room—you never have to perform for me. You are never going to be “too much,” and I’m not afraid of big emotions, including anger. I might look like a Kindergarten teacher, but don’t let that fool you! I am a staunch harm reductionist and human rights advocate, and your safety and right to live your life on your terms matter to me tremendously. My goal is always to be queer-affirming, anti-racist, and decolonizing; with that said, I am always learning, and if I make a mistake, please know it is not with intent to harm, and I would be honored and grateful if you would call me out on it and give me the opportunity to make amends and learn.
I come from a family of veterans and first responders. I have two fabulous neurodivergent children, and a supportive husband who has juggled it all with me for almost 21 years since our very first date! I love nature, yoga, community advocacy, and reading. A good book recommendation is an easy way into my heart!
