Feel Better, Breathe Easier

Welcome! Haas Psychotherapy PLLC is an in-person, North Central Austin practice focused on supporting you through major life transitions, relationship challenges, and the work of addressing depression, trauma, anxiety, grief, and loneliness.

How can I help?

Are you finding yourself feeling anxious more frequently? Are you worried about changes in your personal relationships or your relationships with substances? Do you find yourself feeling lonely even when you’re around others? Or, are you arguing with your partner more than you’d like?

Those and many other reasons can prompt people to seek out therapy. Through significant personal and relational challenges, we all benefit from a caring, safe, compassionate, non-judgmental person to sit with us, and gently push us to explore our thoughts and feelings and delve into their origins. All humans have the capacity to self-heal, but as relational beings, it is much easier to do that with experienced, objective support and guidance. My goal is to collaborate with you to bring the unconscious forward so you can tune into what your body is trying to communicate, to help you develop healthy coping mechanisms, and to allow you to breathe easier and enjoy your life and relationships fully.

About Me

Hi! I’m Amanda Haas, LCSW. I have the best job in the entire world—caring about, supporting, and learning from my fellow humans! At sixteen-years-old, starting out in the service industry, I learned that caring about others and taking the time to truly see them was what gave my life the most meaning and brought me joy. Since then, I have spent time in the classroom as an alternative high school English teacher, enjoyed six years in non-profit community engagement, and found my true passion for therapy in my last four years providing clinical case management in supportive housing. I have met, learned from, and grown to truly love people of all ages and from all walks of life.

I chose to start a private practice because I found it infuriating that politics and income inequality continued to interfere in my ability to provide the equitable, quality services all humans deserve. Therapy is political when human rights, harm reduction, and self-determination become threatened. Being my own boss means that I can offer services for free or reduced rates to those who need them by balancing my income with those able to pay to access services. We’re all a part of the same community, and we all matter equally no matter the income we bring home.

I love social work because of all of you. I have never worked with a person in my entire career who did not bring just as much quality to my life (if not more) than I brought to theirs. I love that each new perspective I’m fortunate to learn broadens my own worldview. We’re in this together, and I want you to speak up if what we’re doing isn’t working or if I’m not understanding where you’re coming from. I want you to be YOU in the room—you never have to perform for me. You are never going to be “too much,” and I’m not afraid of big emotions, including anger. I might look like a Kindergarten teacher, but don’t let that fool you!

Another reason I’m thrilled to have my own practice: I hate screens. We have enough of them in our world today. I offer limited telehealth options for existing clients when there is a need, but primarily, I want to see your lovely faces! I have a cozy office in North Central Austin, or I’m thrilled to meet you somewhere to walk and talk, or we can share a cup of tea at your table. Don’t have tea? Don’t worry, I’ll bring some! My mother was the primary caregiver for my father for years—I know that sometimes you need another human to talk to but you just can’t leave your home. I get it. We’ll make that work—I travel within the 78758 and 78759 zip codes! And, if you’re worried you or your home aren’t perfect or “company ready,” then I bet you’re exactly my kind of person—because that just means you’re a real person. Ask me about the stain I’ve had on my ceiling for the past 14 years; trust me, a lived-in home, is a warm welcoming home.

When I’m not working, you can find me walking in nature or riding bikes with my family or on the couch with a cup of tea and a great book!

Access to quality mental health care should be a right everyone has access to regardless of their ability to pay. At our consultation, in addition to your therapy goals, we will discuss your financial situation and determine a sliding scale fee you can afford.

Please know that if you can afford the regular fee, your payments are ensuring that others are able to pay what is feasible for them. We are all doing our best with the resources we have.

Although I am out of network with most insurances, I can provide a superbill upon request. What is a superbill?‍ ‍
